f God Wants' is a family film about a father who tries to marry off his daughter against the will of God. It's a raucous comedy about the deeper meaning of family, love and the existence of God.
A family's wedding plans for their daughter are threatened by the father's bad karma, which seems to taint the whole ceremony. Yet, even against insurmountable odds, the family does not give up and they strive to get their daughter married even against the will of God.
An unorthodox and unusual look into the jaws of fate, the maw of destiny and the existence and motivation of a supernatural being, this film is a quirky comedy that chronicles the journey of an eccentric family as they try to marry off their daughter. Yet, as the marriage plans go underway, for reasons unexplained yet speculated, an omnipotent force seems to oppose the wedding itself and uses all its powers to stop the wedding.
Can the family battle against a force they cannot see yet is all around them, or are they just being superstitious? What ensues is Arthur Diennet's campy and strange investigation into spirituality, family, morality and most of all, the existence of 'the big guy' himself.
Arthur Diennet began writing If God Wants after his sister's real wedding. Many of the events in the film are based on the true story of that wedding.
6 months after the wedding, in the summer of 2005, at age 15, shooting began for If God Wants in the Diennet home.
Arthur decided to do the film with a cast consisting mostly of his own family playing themselves.
Though it was a long road and it took a long time for Arthur and his crew to complete the film (as shooting schedules revolved mainly around the time when the director was not in high school, such as weekends and after-school) in the summer of '09, the film was completed.
Screened in the Bahamas and Florida, the film has recieved massive acclaim from audiences, calling it an "enjoyable" and "heartwarming" adventure and has now been in the official selection at the Los Angeles Comedy Festival and the Queens International Film Festival.
Here's to seeing more from Arthur!
